Sometimes one requires the sequence of compact sets to satisfy one more property&amp;amp;mdash; that &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;K_j&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is contained in the [[Interior (topology)|interior]] of &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;K_{j+1}&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; for each &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;j&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;. This, however, is dispensed in &#039;&#039;&#039;R&#039;&#039;&#039;&amp;lt;sup&amp;gt;&#039;&#039;n&#039;&#039;&amp;lt;/sup&amp;gt; or a manifold with countable base.&lt;br /&gt;

For example, consider a unit open disk and the concentric closed disk of each radius inside. That is let &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;E = \{ z; |z| &amp;lt; 1 \}&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; and &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;K_j = \{ z; |z| \le (1 - 1/j) \}&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;. Then taking the limit (union) of the sequence &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;K_j&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; gives &#039;&#039;E&#039;&#039;. The example can be easily generalized in other dimensions.&lt;br /&gt;
