The '''Average Service Unavailability Index (ASUI)'''<ref name="Pham2003">{{cite book|last=Pham|first=Hoang|title=Handbook of reliability engineering|url=http://books.google.com/books?id=Xe6Z4wKQFMoC&pg=PA514|accessdate=21 July 2011|date=8 April 2003|publisher=Birkhäuser|isbn=978-1-85233-453-6|pages=514}}</ref> is a reliability index commonly used by [[electric power]] [[utilities]]. It is calculated as

<math>\mbox{ASUI} = \frac{\sum{U_i N_i}}{\sum{N_i} \times 8760} = 1- \mbox{ASAI}</math>

where <math>N_i</math> is the number of customers and <math>U_i</math> is the annual outage time (in hours) for location <math>i</math>. ASUI can be represented in relation to [[SAIDI]] (where annual SAIDI is given in hours) as

<math>\mbox{ASUI} = \frac{\mbox{SAIDI}}{8760}</math>
